All Roads Lead Home A Short Story Single edition by Lisa Mecham Literature Fiction eBooks

This story was originally published in Day One, a weekly literary journal dedicated to short fiction and poetry from emerging writers.
Bill isn’t sure that he’ll be able to abstain from drinking for the entire visit. But he hasn’t seen his sister, Nora, for decades, and the spread of her cancer means that this might be their last chance to make amends.
And so they meet for a road trip to search for Stephen King’s home, in Bangor, Maine. Bill hopes that this will fulfill a wish on his sister’s bucket list and that he’ll be able to show her he’s not the alcoholic failure she thinks he is. Of course, siblings spending time alone in a car can be a dangerous thing—especially when long-festering family secrets are just waiting for a chance to be aired.
Recognizable to anyone who has survived childhood, All Roads Lead Home speaks to the gray zone of memory and how sometimes right or wrong is just a matter of perspective.

All Roads Lead Home A Short Story Single edition by Lisa Mecham Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
As I'm an LA (Literary Agent, for those who didn't know, and if you didn't know, that's fine - it's just an industry-insider thing) for a major publisher, I was urged by a "tipster' to look at this so-called "up-and-coming" writer's on-line self-published work. This story quite honestly is just ridiculously contrived. Yes, as other commenters noted, the writer does use a plethora of literary words and phraseology, but it seems mostly to impress us with her knowledge of vocabulary words (unless she had a thesaurus by her side as she wrote ? Hmmm...I wonder). Also, there were too many syntactical and grammatical errors to mention. Given that the cover art looks like it was slapped together on an old first edition Apple or something, it probably wasn't professionally edited. So that's the short sweet & sour of this short shtory shweetheart lol. Wouldn't recommend this writer's attempts yet, but I would advise her to take some college courses in composition and creative writing. I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 simply for the obvious attempt to use a lot of literary words and phraseology.
Beautifully written and moving. Loved it!
Very well written story in the style of Alice Munroe. Characters leap from the page. Hope to read more by Lisa.
Psychologically complex characters and a storyline that moved quickly, leading places I didn't expect. The writing is crisp and vivid. Can't wait to read more by Mecham.
Great short story, a punch to the heart. A short but gripping read.
